When I take a long quiet look at all the things that are going on in our world today, it can be quite overwhelming. So, I quickly try to refocus my sights on looking at how things are in my individual life. And although things may not be as I desire them to be right now, I remember to cheer up because things could be a lot worse.
Think on this for a minute—if you will. Every day we wake up to a new day is a gift from God. Having the ability to see, to move about freely, to go and come as we please, with the cognitive ability to understand what day of the month it is, what year it is, and how the weather feels outside is a gift from God. These are things that some people cannot do, cannot feel, and cannot embrace.
When my father was ill, he woke up every day with a smile on his face. He never complained and he would always say, the Lord’s been good to me. But when I looked at him, I saw him as this giant who used to be so strong-willed and proud, losing his strength and his ability to do the simple things that he had always been able to do. What he understood then and what I understand now, is that things could have always been worse.
Jesus told his disciples that now comes the time that ye shall be scattered—every man to his own and shall leave me alone and yet I will not be alone because the Father is with me. He says, these things have I spoken unto you that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
There are things that we might face in our lives that we don’t really care to deal with, but I encourage you to remember to “Cheer Up” because things could be worse. Focus on embracing the day that you’ve been given as a gift and live your best life. Think about it. Don’t sit around sad, down, and out, but “Cheer Up”, because The Lord has already overcome the world.
