† Follow Me

Fellows, have you ever played the electronic game called Simon?  It’s a game that has four colors and a tone to match each specific color.  The game starts off with one light and one tone at a time.  Slow at first and the more you master it, the faster it gets.  The object of the game is to follow the leader Simon and do as he does. Once you make a mistake the game is over. Unlike the game Simon, this Christian life is not a game. You live it and no matter how many mistakes you make, it’s not over.  In fact, by the grace of God, you get numerous chances to  get it right.

Years ago, when Jesus walked this earth, teaching and preaching the Kingdom of Heaven, He taught many lessons in hopes that we would pay attention and learn from them.  In fact, as He called the apostles, He used the words “Follow Me”.  Not just as a means for them to walk behind Him and go where He went, but for them to learn from His teachings and do as He did.  Live life as He was living, pray as He was praying, trusting and believing in God just as He was doing.

I’ve heard people say, me included, “Life was easy for Him because He was God”.  But if you really think about it, while in the flesh, Jesus felt all the things we feel today.  Frustrated when people didn’t choose to act right or do right.  Maybe grieved, when you do all you can do for someone, and they don’t appreciate it.  Like we experience now, He was betrayed, lied on, and He suffered loss.   Jesus went through it all and we will too.

Is it easy? No.  Will there be times you will want to quit?  Yes.  But I challenge you, as I encourage myself, don’t give up no matter how it looks or feels. Take a minute and remember Jesus’ words “FOLLOW ME”. When things got tough and His time drew near, He didn’t quit or give up. He went off alone and prayed for strength to do what was needed and my brothers, we must do the same.

So do your best to follow the path that Jesus has laid out. We must trust, believe, and follow the Leader—Jesus .  May God continue to bless you, your brother in Christ…TMK.
