We live in a society today where everything is hustle and bustle. Everyone is moving a top speeds to get very little done in a day. It’s a civilization where there is much hectic activity and work being displayed. Some may describe it as a place of energetic confusion. Either way you choose to look at it and whatever your perception is, this type of lifestyle can eventually wear a person down.
Years of living in this state-of-mind can be dangerous on our physical bodies, not to mention our mental health. I’m not sure exactly when it was that the world got here, but I am confident that this is really no way to live out the rest of our lives.
Think on this for a minute—if you will. There are only so many hours in a day that we are able to accomplish the things we must. Unless time stands still, we will more than likely run out of time before everything can get done. It’s been said—don’t put off until tomorrow—what you can do today. Well, that’s all well and good, and perhaps makes perfect sense in some situations. But it does not work well for all situations—especially if your overall health is suffering because of it. Truth is—most of it can wait!
Sometimes we must purposely make time to slow things down, take a deep breathe, and take in the sights. To reflect on the good things of life and carefully indulge in them. If we are moving too fast through our days—we run the risk of missing the best part of the experience and shortening our existence. We run the risk of being frustrated, tired, worn-down and unhappy with a wonderful life God so graciously gave us to enjoy.
It’s time to truly make an effort to appreciate all this world has to offer. To wake up the next day grateful to have been given another opportunity to enjoy life instead of hurling through it. It’s time to slow it down enough to do the things that make you feel free from the burdens that often come with living in a world on the run. You owe it to yourself and those who love you, to live, laugh and love. God has placed things in you that the world needs, but we will never be able to embrace them if you’re in a constant state of hustle and bustle.
Just because the rest of the world appears to live “Life in the Fast Lane” doesn’t mean you have to too. Slow it down today—so you can live a full life. Concentrate on doing the good things in life as you work hard to complete the things that are necessary as well. Time is of the essence, so I encourage you to use it wisely and stay free from living your life stuck in the fast lane!
