† Pick It Up

I’ve wondered for many years why one day I’m on top of the world and the next day it seems I can hardly get up.  I’m not so immature to think that every day is going to be perfect, but my thoughts would tell me that each day should be great and full of joy, laughter, and happiness, but that’s a fantasy.

My brothers, Jesus says, if any man will come after him he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow him. (Matthew 14:24)  That’s a lot in a very small sentence.  I’m still learning, but simply put, it means whatever happens from day to day, whether good, bad, or indifferent, we must stay on the path that is set before us—denying the urge to whine, cry, complain, and even quit before the task is finished.

I’m sure we could all agree that some of the crosses we must pick up and carry are often very heavy.  Your cross is not mine and mine is not yours, but no matter it’s still heavy to the one carrying it.  Jesus carried the heaviest cross of all without complaint and when his got too heavy someone stepped in and carried it the rest of the way and He will do the same for us.

Truth is, problems come, and problems go, but there is one thing that remains the same.  We are encouraged to cast all our care upon Christ because He cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7) and to come to Him all who labor and are heavy laden, and He will give us rest. (Matthew 11:28-30).

No one in this world is exempt from life’s ups and downs.  Whether we bought them on ourselves, or they came unannounced, pick it up and carry it the best you can.  Will it be easy?  Probably not!  Will you want to quit?  Probably so!  “Pick It Up” and don’t forget to ask for help.  Just do your best to remember you will have help when you need it.  If we continue to look to the Lord, we will receive the help we need to carry the weight and make the journey. (Psalm 121:1-2).   May God continue to bless you, your brother in Christ…TMK.
