† Delight Yourself in The Lord

When you think of the word delight, what comes to mind?  I naturally think of having some quiet time alone with me, myself, and I.  I’m not self-centered or self-absorbed but being alone isn’t overrated if you’re at peace.  When I have the time, this is something that I really enjoy.  I take pleasure in spending time alone in silence.  It’s almost like enjoying a cool glass of water on a hot summer day.  It sooths my soul and calms my spirit tremendously.  Don’t get me wrong—I’m talking about the time alone and not the water.

On the other hand, some people would rather be involved in an activity of some sort or just doing something that keeps them busy.  Spending quiet time may be too difficult or just too unnatural for them to withstand, but I have learned that when I quiet “myself”—I can hear much better.

See the Bible encourages us to delight ourselves in the Lord.  To me this means that even though I enjoy quiet time alone, I should also make time to embrace the joy, gratification, and satisfaction that I can find in God for just being Him.  There are benefits for taking pleasure in Him and letting nothing in this world steal too much of our time. I have found it very beneficial to reframe from being more focused on what I want all the time, but rather waiting patiently while He brings the desires of my heart to pass.  When I remember to delight myself in the Lord, I experience more peace in my life regardless of what’s going on around me.

“Think on This” for a minute.  If delighting ourselves in the Lord puts us in a position to receive the desires of our hearts—tell me, what do we possibly have to lose?  Not only will we receive our heart’s desire when the time comes, but we in turn develop a real relationship with an awesome God.  Staying busy might be rewarding at times but spending time appreciating the Lord—is even more gratifying.

If I want to start receiving the desires of my heart, it may be a good idea to delight myself in the Lord.  The truth is—either way we don’t have anything to lose.  We add the Lord to the important things in our lives and adding Him in—brings the blessings out. Think about it, and then decide to start delighting yourself in the Lord.  (Read Psalm 37:4-5)
